Steel Shafts from Nippon Shaft
Important Notice
Nippon Shaft iron shafts are precisely engineered as constant weight products. This means that each shaft in a set is designed to deliver a consistent weight and performance flow from the longest iron to the shortest. Tip trimming these shafts is not recommended . Any modification outside our official guidelines can negatively impact performance and durability.
Understanding Tip Sizes
Nippon Shaft iron shafts come in two main tip configurations:
- .355” Taper Tip Shafts
- These shafts have a constant outside diameter at the tip end (.355 inches).
- They are designed to fit directly into club heads with .355” tapered hosels.
- These shafts are butt trimmed only to achieve the correct playing length — no tip trim is needed.
- .370” Parallel Tip Shafts
- These shafts have a straight tip section of consistent diameter (.370 inches).
- They are designed to fit directly into club heads with .370” parallel hosels.
- Nippon Shaft iron shafts should not be tip trimmed to maintain the constant weight design.
- These shafts are butt trimmed to final length.
✅ Tip: The tip size you order must match your iron head’s hosel specification. Installing the wrong tip size or modifying a shaft to fit a different hosel type can damage the shaft or the clubhead fit. If you are ever unsure on which tip size to order research the head model specs, consult a club fitter, or contact the manufacturer of the head.
❌ Do not sand down a .370” parallel shaft to fit into a .355” tapered hosel. Doing so removes critical structural material and may cause shaft breakage. This will void your warranty.
MODUS³ Hybrid Shafts — Instructions
SHAFT TRIMMING:
- Trim the shaft from the butt end portion of the shaft to achieve your desired length
- DO NOT trim from the tip end portion of the shaft
NOTE: Shaft trim instructions apply for BOTH .355 taper tip and .370 parallel tip models
SHAFT TIP PREP:
NOTE: Special Tip Prep Method Required for this Model
- This shaft model has a different 2 part construction versus traditional steel or graphite shaft models and thus requires a specialized tip prep method
- Using a utility knife with a razor blade, hold the blade perpendicular to the shaft tip, and scrape the top layer of finish off the shaft tip.
- Using a 100 grit cloth sand strip, lightly sand to remove any excess finish layer
NOTE: It is not recommended to use a belt sander to prep the tip of this shaft model
NOTE: NEVER sand / alter the .370 shaft model tip to fit into a .355 hosel
NOTE: Most modern clubs have the top of the hosel chamfered or coned to alleviate stress on the shaft pressure on the inside of the hosel wall. If not, prior to shaft installation, have the top of your hosel coned/chamfered to insure a lifetime of durability
The MODUS³ Hybrid shafts are available in both .355” taper and .370” parallel tip versions.
The MODUS³ Hybrid HL is only available in .370" parallel.
Graphite Driver & Fairway Wood Shafts
Trimming Instructions
- Nippon Shaft graphite driver shafts are shipped at 46.0 inches raw length.
- For driver installation, no tip trim is required.
- For fairway woods, tip trimming is permitted up to 1.5 inches maximum, depending on the desired club type. Consult your club builder or contact an authorized Nippon Shaft dealer for guidance.

Tip trimming is a precise, subtle tuning option, not a wholesale transformation. For most players, a standard build will perform best. But for those who understand the nuances, it is a valid tool for fine-tuning graphite shaft performance. Please note that tip trimming wood shafts will shift the profile to become firmer and is not required for fairway woods.
Always butt trim to your final playing length after the head is installed.
Tip Prep
- Using a utility knife with a razor blade, hold the blade perpendicular to the shaft tip, and scrape the top layer of finish off the shaft tip.
- Using a 100 grit cloth sand strip, lightly sand to remove any excess finish layer
- NOTE: It is not recommended to use a belt sander to prep the tip of this shaft model
❌ Graphite shafts can not be reused because it is exposed to heat during the removal process. We will not cover warranty for re-installed shafts.
Key Reminders
✔️ Always check your club head’s hosel size and choose the correct shaft model and tip configuration.
✔️ Follow all trimming and installation guidelines to maintain performance and warranty coverage.
✔️ Improper sanding, over-trimming, or using non-approved build methods may weaken your shaft and is not covered under warranty.
