Trimming Instructions
Important Notice
Nippon Shaft iron shafts are precisely engineered as constant weight products. This means that each shaft in a set is designed to deliver a consistent weight and performance flow from the longest iron to the shortest. Tip trimming these shafts is not recommended — any modification outside our official guidelines can negatively impact performance and durability.
Understanding Tip Sizes
Nippon Shaft iron shafts come in two main tip configurations:
- .355” Taper Tip Shafts
- These shafts have a constant outside diameter at the tip end (.355 inches).
- They are designed to fit directly into club heads with .355” tapered hosels.
- These shafts are butt trimmed only to achieve the correct playing length — no tip trim is needed.
- .370” Parallel Tip Shafts
- These shafts have a straight tip section of consistent diameter (.370 inches).
- Parallel tip shafts are designed to be tip trimmed to adjust flex for different club numbers only if specified by the manufacturer’s instructions — however, Nippon Shaft iron shafts should not be tip trimmed to maintain the constant weight design.
- These shafts are butt trimmed to final length.
✅ Tip: The tip size you order must match your iron head’s hosel specification. Installing the wrong tip size or modifying a shaft to fit a different hosel type can damage the shaft or the clubhead fit. If you are ever unsure on which tip size to order research the head model specs, consult a club fitter, or contact the OEM.
❌ Do not sand down a .370” parallel shaft to fit into a .355” tapered hosel. Doing so removes critical structural material and may cause shaft breakage — this will void your warranty.
MODUS³ Hybrid Shafts — Instructions
MODUS³ Hybrid shafts are an exception and do have specific tip trimming requirements:
- #2 Hybrid or #2 Utility: No tip trim.
- Each subsequent shorter club: Tip trim 0.5 inch for each club number down. For example:
- #3 Hybrid = 0.5 inch tip trim
- #4 Hybrid = 1.0 inch tip trim, and so on.
The MODUS³ Hybrid shafts are available in both .355” taper and .370” parallel tip versions.
The MODUS³ Hybrid HL is only available in .370" parallel.
✅ Tip: The tip size you order must match your hybrid/utility head’s hosel specification.
This is considered a graphite product, so we can not cover warranty for re-installed shafts that have been exposed to heat during the shaft removal process.
Graphite Driver & Fairway Wood Shafts — Trimming Instructions
- Nippon Shaft graphite driver shafts are shipped at 46.0 inches raw length.
- For driver installation, no tip trim is required.
- For fairway woods, tip trimming is permitted up to 2 inches maximum, depending on the desired club type and clubhead manufacturer’s specifications.
Always butt trim to your final playing length after the head is installed.
❌ Graphite shafts can not be reused because it is exposed to heat during the removal process. We will not cover warranty for re-installed shafts.
